Raila Amollo Odinga stands as one of Africa’s most consequential statesmen; a gallant son of the continent whose life has been defined by sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to democracy. From detention and persecution to the forefront of Kenya’s struggle for multiparty democracy, he consistently placed country before self, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s democratic rebirth.
A champion of social democracy, Raila has advanced inclusive, people-centered development, social justice, and the empowerment of the marginalized. He has strongly advocated for Public–Private Partnerships as a vehicle for national development, infrastructure growth, industrialization, and job creation, while upholding the public interest.

Equally defining is his statesmanship and fidelity to constitutionalism. At critical moments, he chose dialogue, reform, and national cohesion, helping steady the Republic and inspiring democratic movements across Africa.
As we honour BABA @80+1, we celebrate a life lived in service, inseparable from Kenya’s democratic journey and Africa’s ongoing quest for justice and freedom.

I joined fellow leaders at the Coastal Salute in Kikambala, Kilifi County, convened by CS Hon. Hassan Ali Joho, to honour H.E. Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, CGH. In my remarks, I reflected on my journey under Baba’s mentorship, proudly the last born among his mentees and testified to his selfless investment in nurturing leadership across generations.
Long live BABA.
The revolutionary spirit lives on.
